Guest lists live in this browser only. If you don't come back for a week, or you clear your history, they're gone. You can link a Google account at any point and keep them.
Everyone at home sees the same list. One of you adds milk from work, the other already sees it at the store. No texts that get buried in the thread, no note left on the counter, no calling from the dairy aisle to ask what else you need.
Sharing is an option, not a requirement. If you never invite anyone, it's just a personal shopping list that saves to your account and opens on any device, and you can add someone later.
Invite a partner with a short code, and from that moment the lists are shared. An item someone adds or checks off shows up for the rest without a refresh, and you can turn on a notification that reaches your phone when a partner adds something.
You say "Hey Siri, add to list" and the item goes in. Works with the screen locked, on headphones and while driving, without opening the app.

The lists live in this browser only and could be deleted. Linking a Google account keeps them, and lets you sign in from another device.
A notification when an item is added
Someone else at home adds an item and you get a notification on your phone. Nothing is sent for items you add yourself, or for a list that's hidden from you.
Add by voice, through Siri
You tell Siri "add to list" and it asks what to add and which list. You set the shortcut up once on your phone.

OK, I added ice cream to Groceries
Settings → Siri → Language. Siri only recognizes a shortcut name in its own language, and it dictates in that language too. If your lists and items are in English, pick English.
Copy your personal token
It identifies you to your lists. The shortcut asks for it during setup.
Install the shortcut
It opens in the Shortcuts app. Paste the token there and tap Add Shortcut. If that screen gets stuck, tap Skip Setup and then paste the token into the first text box in the shortcut.
InstallRun it once by hand
From Shortcuts, not through Siri. On the first run iOS asks for network access. Allow it, and that's it.
Start talking
"Hey Siri, add to list". Works with the screen locked and on headphones too.
The token is the only secret here, and anyone holding it can add to your lists. Don't share it. On a second phone, install the shortcut again and paste the same token.
